Periodontology is a three-year graduate speciality program focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, oral inflammation, and the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease and are also trained in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures. Periodontists treat complex and advanced periodontal cases including patients with a complex medical history. The requirements for the program include coursework, a clinical component, and a thesis.
