Entry requirements

Applicants should have majored in history or a related field; demonstrate proficient command of language(s) crucial to their research; submit a detailed research proposal in Chinese or English, a literature review (minimum 1000 words), a Master's thesis or academic essay, and evidence of language proficiency. First Language Requirement: Either Chinese or English may be chosen; for Chinese, adequate evidence of proficiency such as public examination results or academic record is required; for English, applicants from non-English-speaking countries must submit TOEFL or IELTS (Academic) scores, while those from English-speaking countries should submit SAT or GCE results. Second Language Requirement: any Asian or Western language closely related to the intended field of study, with evidence such as TOEFL or IELTS (Academic) scores, public examination results or academic records. An interview may be required by the Division.
