Students are required to write a research thesis which should make original contributions to Applied English Linguistics. Students are expected to have a good command of English, the official language of the thesis. In addition to the thesis, students must pass two qualifying examinations within a specified period of time before they can be advanced to PhD candidature.
In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should 1. possess an MA/MPhil degree in Linguistics or a language-related field, OR have completed the first-year course of an MA/MPhil program in Linguistics or a language-related field, before they are considered for admission; 2. have at least one year of relevant professional experience; 3. submit Master's Thesis OR a sample research paper; and 4. submit a 1,500-word research proposal that demonstrates robust theoretical knowledge in the interested field(s) and sound methodological understanding.
