What it is

Italy's main employment route. Long-stay visa for subordinate work, including seasonal and multi-year seasonal work, specialised work, secondment, professional training and highly qualified work (EU Blue Card / Carta blu UE), granted against a work authorisation (nulla osta al lavoro) issued under articles 22, 24, 27 or 27-quater of Legislative Decree 286/1998. Entry quotas are set by the Decreto Flussi. After entry the holder must attend the Sportello Unico per l'Immigrazione (SUI) at the competent prefecture before applying for the residence permit. A type D national visa is valid for stays over 90 days (91-365 days). Within 8 working days of entering Italy the holder must apply for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno).
