What it is
Italian long-stay visa for an internship or traineeship (studio, tirocinio). A type D national visa is valid for stays over 90 days (91-365 days). Within 8 working days of entering Italy the holder must apply for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno).

The trainee holds a study permit bearing the wording «tirocinante»; it allows subordinate employment of no more than 20 hours a week, poolable across 52 weeks, subject to an annual ceiling of 1.040 hours (DPR 394/1999 art. 14 c.4).
