DAAD Scholarship at Asian Institute of Technology

Who it is for

• 2026 call: master’s study in Gender and Development Studies or Natural Resources Management at AIT only.
• Nationals or permanent residents of Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Thailand or Vietnam.
• An above-average first university degree, completed within six years; motivation and commitment; IELTS or AIT-EET at least 6. Meet AIT’s separate admission and full-scholarship English requirements.
• University teaching/research, public-sector or DAFI-alumni background is expected; the programme targets future higher-education teaching or research careers in Southeast Asia. Previous DAAD master’s scholarship recipients cannot receive another DAAD master’s award.
• Apply to DAAD and AIT with the required documents. Funding starts only after admission and proof of arrival.

Good to know

The 2026 round is closed; no next-round dates are confirmed. Up to 12 awards, subject to funding. The detailed DAAD call provides agreed tuition, EUR 460 annually for study/research, EUR 400 for printing, and a monthly allowance of EUR 600 for in-region recipients or EUR 500 for in-country recipients. In-region travel and insurance benefits apply; some fees are excluded. Funding lasts at most 22 months and continuation is reviewed. The detailed call includes permanent residents of the named countries, which AIT’s summary omits. Applicants must satisfy both DAAD and AIT requirements.
